“Oh. I guess I’m a podcast host now.”

Actual words I said to my sister when I got hired at the Design-Build Institute of America in February 2023. I was truly overjoyed at the opportunity to get back to audio storytelling, but I was trying to be cool about it.

I am not cool.

Other people are, though, and with the Design-Build Delivers Podcast, I get to highlight just how cool they are.

I took over the hosting duties when the original host retired (and is headed to Spain to live it up, the lucky lady). It’s been a real highlight in a job filled with highlights.

It’s my job to make sure these conversations are interesting and informative for design-build professionals, but I knew next to nothing about design-build when I began this job. The podcast has helped me learn and has polished my research and storytelling skills tremendously.

Introducing Design-Build Delivers Podcast Bonus Content

In 2024, the Design-Build Delivers Podcast introduced a series of minisodes associated with each month’s primary episode.

Sometimes, our chats with podcast guests go long, dive into some deep stuff or — every so often — get a little weird. The topics we discuss are also multifaceted and can only go so far in a single episode, so Design-Build Delivers Podcast Bonus Content provides a new way to bring you some of the better content that ends up on the cutting room floor.

These shorter episodes provide additional context, highlight important topics, illustrate case studies or otherwise provide more from each month’s guests. As of May 2024, Bonus Content episodes have increased overall listenership nearly two-fold, with bonus episode releases prompting additional downloads of the main episode and boosting subscriber count. With shorter content, DBIA is able to tap into the casual podcast sector as well as those with limited listening time.
